I hope.  The pictures display on my Flickr Photostream, but I haven't a clue how to get folks to the right picture.  Fingers crossed the following links work.

Capclave 2008

World Fantasy Con 2008

I know, I know.  I should write up con reports and explain how I nearly killed WFC 2008's Writer Guest of Honor, Barbara Hambly.
Look, I didn't mean to, okay?  All I did was put on a dab of perfume before I went down to the room to moderate the Genre Hopping panel Sunday morning, November 2.  Unfortunately, the combination of my perfume (BPAL's Kyoto) and the dry air of Calgary wreaked havoc on Barbara's sinuses.  But she soldiered on.  Fortunately, the panel also featured Jo Beverly.  Between the two of them, I don't think anyone in the audience noticed there was a problem.  Those ladies are class acts, and I feel so lucky to have shared panel space with them.  I just wish I hadn't made Barbara so uncomfortable.
Lesson to remember for future panels: eschew the perfume, no matter how good it smells to you.
Chastened cheers,
Jean Marie

I only glanced through the photos, but it looked like you visited or were in the vicinty of a rock quarry. Eh, those few years with the Stone Association make me think aggragate whenever I see loose stone.

Ah, I understand now.
The rock photos show Frank Slide. "Slide" as in "landslide", specifically, what happens when a one kilometer length of mountain falls off and buries a lot of real estate. It's a rather powerful reminder of how young and active the Rockies really are.
Hugs and smiles,

Okay, this probably wasn't funny at the time, but I grinned at the story anyway! :)

I cringe to admit it, but it was pretty funny at the time, for all the wrong reasons. The audience was having a blast. Jo Beverly was on a roll. Meanwhile, I'm trying every moderator/reporter trick I know to get Barbara to talk. Finally, I said in awe: "You are the most laconic writer I've ever met!"
To which she replied, "Yep."
"I'm not worthy," I cried and bowed over the panel table.
The audience roared. They thought it was all part of the act. Thank goodness. :D
Hugs and smiles,
Jean Marie
